There are a number of restaurants within 15 minutes of Bernis each offering something a little different. One thing to note is that there is often a set menu of the day – including a starter, main and desert and sometimes house wine and an expresso coffee as well. This option is less expensive than ordering off the a la carte menu. It’s also great for ensuring you try something new. Here’s a list of some favourites:
Le Lias (Molas) +33 5 61 94 14 60
Le Lias is a family favourite as there is something for everyone from mouth-watering pizzas to hearty salads and meat options. You can also order take-away pizzas from Le Lias (and have a drink at the bar while you wait for them). There is a foosball table – need I say anything more!
La Grange (Masseube) +33 5 62 66 14 54
Like many restaurants in the area, La Grange has a traditional menu that includes duck. We heartily recommend the duck breast (magret de canard) with raspberry sauce – simply delicious. The gizzard salad also receives top marks from our meat-munching taste testers.
Le Petit Routier (Masseube) +33 05 62 66 02 14
This restaurant is a treat to visit. It is run by a warm and welcoming couple and the food is tasty. There’s a menu of the day – 12€ during the week and 15€ on a Saturday – that includes wine and coffee. You’ll also find a number of regulars who lunch there every day.
Auberge Champetre (Escanecrabe) +33 5 61 88 22 71
There’s a “cow on the roof” of this restaurant so you really cannot miss it! The meat is locally sourced and cooked on an open fire – a meat-eaters heaven. It’s very busy especially on Sundays so it’s well-worth phoning to book.
Le Relais du Chateau (Saint-Blancard) +33 05 62 66 01 35
This restaurant/bar is perfect for a refreshing cold drink and they do delicious burgers and chips. They’re the kind of burgers you remember from your childhood – those big bun ones full of fillings and flavour and impossible to get through without getting just a little bit grubby…
L’Abreuvoir/Les amis d’abord (St-Blancard) +33 05 62 66 92 01
This little restaurant offers a set menu every day and is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. The food is tasty, home-cooked fare and they also do take-away pizzas at the weekend.
Auberge Traquet (Arrouede) +33 05 6266 09 87
This restaurant is set in the farm area of Arrouede and the rustic theme continues to the dining area – can you spot how the ox harnesses have been transformed? The food is traditional, hearty, and homemade and the welcome is warm.
Auberge Preville (Boulogne-sur-Gesse) +33 5 61 88 23 12
Auberge Preville offers cooking lessons with their chef. You prepare your meal together and then sit down to enjoy with the others on the course. It’s a fun way to meet people and perhaps learn something new. You need to book in advance.
La Table d’Olivier (Samatan) +33 5 62 62 63 29
This restaurant offers a delicious, well-priced menu. It always feels a treat to eat here – outdoors under the trees in the town square in the summer and indoors in the cosy atmosphere in the winter.
